What is a tier list?
A tier list ranks a group of things into labeled rows — usually S for the best, down through A, B, C and D. It's a quick, visual way to share an opinion and start a debate. Tier List Maker gives you a blank board and lets you fill it with words or images, then export the result.
It is a ranking system in the plainest sense: you group similar ranked items into rows ordered best to worst, and the picture does the arguing for you. How do I make a tier list?+
Paste a list of words or drop in your own images, then drag each tile into a row from S down to D. It is a ranking system rather than a score: you are sorting things from best to worst and grouping similar ranked items together. Export a PNG when you are done. Quick and easy, and there is no sign-up.
How does a tier list work?+
You start with a pool of items and a set of labelled rows. Drag each item into the row you think it belongs in, and everything sitting in the same row counts as roughly equal. Nothing is calculated - the ranking is your judgement, which is why two people rarely produce the same board.
What do the S, A, B, C and D tiers mean?+
S is the top rank and sits above A, with the letters descending from there: A is great, B is solid, C is average and D is weak. The S came from Japanese grading, where it marks a result above the usual A. You can rename or recolour any row if those labels do not suit your topic.
Can I make a tier list on my phone?+
Yes. Press and hold a tile, then drag it into a row. Landscape gives you more width and fewer mis-drops, and there is a prompt on the board suggesting it. Uploading images and exporting the PNG work the same as they do on desktop.
Can I make a tier list in Google Sheets?+
You can approximate one with a table and coloured rows, but you have to build the grid yourself, resize every image and move items by cut-and-paste. A purpose-built board handles the layout, the drag-and-drop and the export for you.
